Mortgage tax record, 1935- .

No real or personal property conveyance can be recorded until a privilege tax is collected by the probate judge (see Ala. Code, 40-22-1 [1975]). This series documents the collection of tax payments by the probate judge. Information in the series includes the date, grantor, grantee, fees collected, amount secured by instrument, and type of instrument. This record began in 1935 and continues to the present. The information is also fund in the Comptroller, Department of Finance series S-9-1, Reports of Probate Judges.
